Baldwin County Assistant District Attorney Matt Simpson has announced his candidacy for the Alabama House District 96 seat in the Republican primary set for June 5, 2018. The seat is being vacated by Rep. Randy Davis who is seeking election to Baldwin County Probate Judge.

A Daphne resident, Simpson holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Alabama and his Juris Doctor from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law.

“I have spent my career in public service for the citizens of Baldwin and Mobile counties,” Simpson said. “The opportunity to go to Montgomery and serve in a capacity to affect legislation and have input into the creation of laws instead of just enforcement of them would be a dream come true.”

Simpson began his career at The Huntley Firm in Mobile before joining the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office where he served from 2006-2011 as a Circuit Court Prosecutor and Child Sex Crimes Prosecutor and returned to the position in January of this year. His career also includes six years with the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office.

Simpson has spent years actively involved in Republican politics, serving as chair of the Baldwin County Republican Party State Executive Committee, as well as Vice-Chair for Congressional District 1 and Chairman of the Code of Ethics Committee for the Alabama Republican Party State Executive Committee. He was also named Rising Republican Star of the Alabama Republican Party in 2011.

Simpson’s community involvement includes the Baldwin County Department of Human Resources Board of Directors, Rotary Youth Club Fairhope/Point Clear Board of Directors, The Family Center Board of Directors, and the United Way of Baldwin County Young Leaders Society. He is also a 2015 graduate of Leadership Baldwin County.

“I work every day in the courtroom to be a voice for the people, and I believe strongly in servant leadership,” Simpson said. “I want to serve to promote the interests and causes of the people of our region. It would be an honor to be able to continue to serve the public as a member of the Alabama Legislature.”

Simpson and his wife, Marina, have been married for 14 years and have two children. They are members of Coastal Church in Daphne where he also serves as an elder.
