Former school board member Cox dies

STOCKTON – Former Baldwin County Board of Education member David Boyd Cox of Stockton died recently at the age of 38.

Cox, was elected to the board in 2012. He served one six-year term representing District 1 in north Baldwin County.

A native of Mobile, Cox spent his entire life battling spinal muscular atrophy. As a first-grade student in Perdido Elementary School, Cox was chosen to represent as an Eastern Seals Child.

As a student at Baldwin County High School, David was a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, and Delta Belles and Beaux. He represented Baldwin County High at Alabama Boys State, where he received multiple awards for his accomplishments.

He attended Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta after graduating from Baldwin County High School. After graduating from Georgia Institute of Technology, he eventually built his own engineering firm.

He is survived by his wife, Payton Strickland Cox of Stockton; son, Myles Milton Cox of Stockton; his parents, Richard and Wendy Cox of Stockton; brother, John Richard Cox of Spanish Fort, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Aug. 15. He was buried at Richerson Cemetery.
