Fred H. Kichler, age 98, a lifelong resident of Elberta, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at his home.

Fred was born on Oct. 18, 1919 to Martin and Elsie Kichler. He was the oldest of seven children. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all that knew him.

He was a successful farmer all his life. Additionally, he was a founding member of the Elberta Farmers Co-Op and Elberta Locker Plant, director of Baldwin County Farmers Federation and a member of Baldwin County Cattlemen's Association. He served as the president of the Alabama Sweet Potato Association and throughout his life promoted the sweet potato industry.

Preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Anna Bloch Kichler; a daughter, Diane Kichler Christensen; son in law, Jimmie M. Hemmert.

Survivors include his two daughters, Dorothy Hemmert, Nancy (John) Johnson; one son, Leonard (Susan) Kichler; one son-in-law, Rip Christensen; grandchildren, Shannon (Craig) Brown, Karen (Hudson) Adams, Elisa (Greg) Seibert, Nicholas Hemmert , Katie Johnson (fiance' Tim Butler), Mitchell (Rebekah) Johnson, Rachel (Bart) Smith, Wayne (Katie) Kichler, Sarah (Robby) Ray; 13 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Hartley Gunderson, Anna and Brantley Adams, Freddie and Lucy Seibert, Martha and James Smith, Allison, Jase and Eli Kichler, Eva Ray, Harper Johnson; one sister, Clara Alms; and many other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the caregivers, Nechole Joiner, Barbara Shoots, Gail Dewitt, Maxine Dinish, Lillie Rodgers and Sandy Garcia.

Funeral services will be held from St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Elberta, Alabama, Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 11 a.m.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will follow at Elberta Public Cemetery.
