Greer’s hosts grand opening at new Robertsdale location

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Autry Greer & Sons Inc. (Greer’s) announced the project completion of its new Greer’s CashSaver Robertsdale Market.

Members of the Central Baldwin Chamber, city and county leaders, local media and customers were on hand Wednesday, June 27 to celebrate the occasion and help cut the ribbon.

Jan Greer Endfinger welcomed everyone and invited the crowd to remove their hats as Cadets Hunter Theodoro, Trenton Gardner, Tyler Macon, William Doty and Sierra Gardner, Robertsdale High School NJROTC Commanding Officer, presented the colors and led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance. Musicians Jerry Powell and Kenny Matthews sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.

Following the presentation of the colors, the pledge and the singing of the National Anthem, Pastor Harvey Earls of Bethel Baptist Church offered the opening prayer. Fourth and fifth generation members of the Greer Family including Jackie Greer, Jan Greer Endfinger, Lucy Greer Cheriogotis, Stephen Thomas, Gray Fobes and Les Buerger greeted customers, store associates, vendors and all to thank them for their hard work on the project and loyalty through the years.

Corporate Spokesperson Lucy Greer Cheriogotis commented on the history and current status of the 102 Year Young, fifth generation, family-owned company.

“Our family has owned and operated Greer's since 1916,” she said. “Greer’s currently operates 30 stores located in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida with three, soon to be four, Ace Hardware Express locations. The company also operates liquor stores and gasoline service stations at certain locations and Greer’s Groceries to Go online shopping.”

“The decision to acquire the new location (formerly Winn Dixie) gave us the opportunity to expand the service and selections we currently offer to better serve the wonderful people of Robertsdale and local communities in the Central Baldwin County area,” he said. “We are committed to offering the finest quality, friendliest service and lowest everyday prices every day.

The new store décor features murals of Greer’s History along with some of the local community history, he said, also thanking Nelson Wingo and the family at Campbell Hardware and the Hammond family for their support through the years.

Guests, including Robertsdale Mayor Charles Murphy, Howard and Donna Harper and Mama Lou Polka, were given the opportunity to make comments to the crowd and to express appreciation on behalf of the, city, county, Rotary Club and local businesses to the Greer Family for their commitment to the community. The family was recognized for their commitment to the community through donations and sponsorships to local schools, churches, the Robertsdale Rotary Club and the Chamber and for the free educational awards through its award winning Apples for the Students Program.

During the event, Ellie Lee and volunteers with the bread ministry at Gulf Shores United Methodist Church were presented a $250 Gift Card to help stock their food pantry. The Robertsdale High School Cheerleaders were on hand to welcome everyone.

Gail Quezada, executive director of the Central Baldwin Chamber, thanked the Greer family, Donna and Howard Harper and the Robertsdale team members for their sponsorships, donations and event support. Quezada thanked everyone for attending the ribbon cutting ceremony and encouraged them to “Shop Local” in store or online.

Guests were invited in for refreshments and a tour of the grocery store and to enjoy music provided by Jerry Powell and Kenny Matthews. All were invited to register to win the grand prize – choice of a 14 foot Jon boat, motor and trailer from locally owned L & M Marine, a Carnival cruise for two and $250 or $3,500 in cash and gift cards, along with a host of other prizes including gift cards from Purdy Thangz and Campbell Hardware.
