GULF SHORES, Ala. — Homecoming was special for Dolphins nation as Gulf Shore got win No. 2 of the season over Faith Academy 31-30. The Dolphins scored 21 points in the first quarter until the Rams returned a 99-yard fumble for a touchdown. Gulf Shores’ offense with Todd Hoover's running and the play-action passing from Rett Files proved to be very efficient against the Rams. Files connected on a 91-yard touchdown pass to Devon Swainston early.

The offensive line for Gulf Shores didn’t allow a sack and helped Hoover with 192 rushing yards on 30 carries (6.4 yards per rush) and two touchdowns. Files continues his impressive passing with eight completions (13 attempts) for 201 yards and two touchdowns.

The defense and blitzing forced two turnovers (including a missed field goal from Faith), with seven tackles for loss and two sacks. Gage Hudson had seven total tackles, four for loss. Logan Holland had seven total tackles and one sack.

In the end, the special teams were the big indicator on the game as Mason Young kicked a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. With 55 seconds in the game remaining, the Dolphins gave up a 33-yard passing touchdown from Braxton Bell to Jacob Mitchell. The Dolphins would need to block the extra point or possibly face overtime. Once again, Gage Hudson was the reliant play maker as he blocked the extra point for the 31-30 win.

This win is the first home win for Gulf Shores since 2015 (34-24 over Robertsdale). This is also the first home win for first-year head coach Matt Blake as he hopes to use this momentum for more wins and rebuild the program.

Gulf Shores had a special honorary captain in Jarrius Robertson, a New Orleans Saints’ and Pelicans’ super fan who is battling biliary atresia. Robertson won the 2017 ESPY Jimmy V Perseverance Award for fighting the disease and for his ability to create hype and enthusiasm throughout the games. Robertson lived up to his legacy as he pumped the crowd at Mickey-Miller Blackwell Stadium and the Dolphins team throughout the game.

The Faith Academy Rams (1-4) will host the UMS-Wright Bulldogs (4-1) while the Gulf Shores Dolphins (2-4) will host the Saraland Spartans (5-1) this next Friday.
