The City of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach held swearing in ceremonies Nov. 2 for the mayor and City Council. The 2020 election in both cities was highly contested with both mayors challenged for the first time since being elected. Despite four of the five Gulf Shores City Council members and two Orange Beach City Council members being challenged, they were all reelected.

The Gulf Shores swearing in ceremony took place at the Erie Meyer Civic Center before the work session with Gulf Shores Municipal Judge Honorable Frank T. Hollon administered the oath of office to Mayor Robert Craft, Jason Dyken, Joe Garris, Phillip Harris, Stephen Jones and Gary Sinak. Phillip Harris was reappointed Mayor Pro Tempore.

The Orange Beach swearing in ceremony took place at the Orange Beach Community Center before the regular council meeting. Orange Beach Municipal Judge Honorable Julian B. Brackin administered the oath of office to Mayor Tony Kennon, Annette Mitchell, Joni Blalock, Jerry Johnson, Jeff Silvers and Jeff Boyd. The mayor and council appointed Jeff Boyd Mayor Pro Tempore taking over the post from Annette Mitchell.

The Gulf Shores and Orange Beach mayors and city council will serve a four-year term and be up for reelection in 2024.
