DECATUR — The Gulf Shores High School boys' and girls' tennis teams competed fiercely at the AHSAA State Tennis Championships in Decatur. The boys' team had players who competed in three semi-final and two final matches. The girls' team had one player to compete in a semi-final match.

The girls' team placed 10th overall in the state. Maddie Scarbrough placed third in the State at No. 3 singles, losing a hard-fought battle in the semi-finals to the ultimate winner at that seed.

The boys' team placed 6th overall in the state, with Jake and Wes Lartigue finishing third at No. 1 doubles. Jake Lartigue was runner-up in the state at No. 2 singles. Wes Lartigue was runner-up at No. 1 singles.

The boys' team received a special honor by being voted most sportsmanlike by the rest of the teams and coaches at the state tournament and brought home the AHSAA Sportsmanship Award for 2017 boys’ tennis.
