ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The resurfacing of U.S. Highway 90 from Alabama 59 in Robertsdale to the Florida state line should be done by the end of next week, according to construction company officials.
The project, which includes planning, resurfacing and traffic striping on the 16 ½ mile stretch of highway, was let through the Alabama Department of Transportation on April 29. H.O. Weaver & Sons out of Mobile submitted the low bid of just under $2.4 million for the project, according to ALDOT’s letting website.
Traffic was slowed for much of the day on Aug. 18 at the intersection at Highway 90 and Alabama 59 as crews worked on the resurfacing, closing the east-bound lane of traffic.
The project, which was scheduled to begin around the end of June or first of July, calls for 85 working days. Lewis Tillery, vice president of H.O. Weaver & Sons asphalt division, estimated that the project would be completed sometime during the week of Labor Day, which is Sept. 5.
This was the only resurfacing project in Baldwin County slated for bid opening on April 29, according to the DOT website. A year-long project for maintenance dredging at Little Lagoon Pass in Gulf Shores was also on the April 29 slate.
According to the letting website, there were no projects listed on ALDOT’s July 29 bid opening list. Three projects were slated for bid opening on Aug. 26, including:
•Bridge replacement on County Road 10 (Keller Road) over Boggy Branch South.
•Adaptive signal installments on Alabama Highway 42.
•Median improvements and beautification (widening, resurfacing, traffic striping and signals) on Alabama 182 near the intersection of Loop Road to just east of Cotton Bayou Beach.
