Sassy Bass will host the first Fort Morgan Oyster Festival Feb. 29 to celebrate the importance of oyster farming in Mobile Bay. The event will feature local Navy Cove Oysters prepared every way your palate desires.

The event is free, and tickets can be purchased for $1 each and used for the purchase of oysters. There will be live music, games, prizes and fun for the whole family. It will also be a great chance to learn more about oysters and the local oyster farm, Navy Cove Oysters.

Navy Cove Oysters LLC was founded in 2011, born out of a long-term friendship and working relationship between marine science researchers Dr. John Supan and Dr. Charles Wilson. The duo joined a growing movement along the coastal regions to produce boutique oysters for the half-shell market.

The farm is located on the northern shore of Fort Morgan near the body of water called Navy Cove. The area is rich in history. Frequented by native communities, anchorage for pirates and the U.S. Navy during during the War of 1812 and World War II. The site sits at the intersection of Mobile Bay and the salty waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Sassy Bass proudly serves Navy Cove Oysters throughout the year. Eric Bradley can often be found manning the raw bar and enjoys the opportunity to educate customers about the local oysters. He has his hands on the oysters from day one. Bradley, raised on a crawfish farm in south Louisiana, joined Navy Cove Oysters in 2016. He helps with every stage of the oyster operation and works at Sassy Bass. Oysters he harvests are in the mouths of guests within 24 hrs.

The First Annual Fort Morgan Oyster Festival is Saturday, Feb. 29, from 1 – 5 p.m. at Sassy Bass located at 5160 Ste. Hwy 180, mile Marker 5, Gulf Shores.
