INSP’s The Cowboy Way rides into Season 7

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — In the days of the old Hollywood western movies, during times of great distress, cowboys would come riding in to save the day.

In the spirit of those popular westerns, which are also prevalent on the network, the stars of INSP’s The Cowboy Way, including Robertsdale’s Cody Harris, will come riding in for their seventh season beginning at 8 p.m. (CT) Wednesday, July 29.

“After going their separate ways to focus on individual pursuits, Bubba, Cody and Booger come back together to expand their business, partnering with cattlemen from large-scale operations in Florida and Alabama,” according to a release issued by INSP recently. “They work tirelessly to buy, raise, and ship cattle back and forth across state lines.”

The show also focuses on the lives of the three cowboys’ families, including Harris’ wife Misty, partners with Harris in their own company, “Full Moon Cattle Company,” and their son Carter; Thompson and his wife Kaley also have a daughter, Andie; and Brown and his wife Jaclyn have a son, Matthew.

Individual story lines see Harris and his wife Misty building their dream home and organizing another specialty cattle sale.

“We’ve been really busy with Full Moon Cattle and things are really coming together,” Harris said. “We’ve been working on this house for five years and we’ve finally started building, so that’s a big thing in our lives.”

Fellow cattleman Bubba Thompson and his wife Kaley are also featured individually as their prepare to welcome their new baby into the world and Booger Brown leads a traditional cattle drive through his hometown, helps Matthew train for his first rodeo, and honors his grandma by compiling a book full of her famous recipes and cowgirl stories.

“I think what you’re going to see this season is getting back to the roots of us just being friends,” Harris said, taking a break from baling hay to conduct a phone interview on Tuesday. “We still do a lot of business together, but we’re not really in business together anymore, so it’s really a lot less pressure on our relationships.”

The show was shot largely last fall, Harris said, and experienced some delays in production because of a shutdown after the pandemic hit in March.

“We still did some things together,” he said, including a business opportunity in south Florida through a connection of Brown’s. “You’ll get to see a lot of things that we just don’t have up here. It’s some wild country down there.”

Harris first hit the reality television scene on the CMT series “Sweet Home Alabama.” Filmed in Fairhope and around Baldwin and Mobile counties, Harris was on the premiere season of the series, which aired in 2011.

From there, he went on to star with fellow “Sweet Home Alabama” alum Thompson in “Southern Nights,” which was set in Savannah, Georgia.

Harris and Thompson joined with Brown to form Faith Cattle Company and shortly thereafter, Harris says, the trio developed the idea for “The Cowboy Way.”

Harris has also teamed up with rodeo promoter Jerry Byrd and local businessman Bill Patterson to promote the annual Bulls on the Beach which is held at the iconic Flora Bama Lounge every September.

“Right now, we’re still planning on having it,” Harris said. “The event is in Florida, so it’s going to come to a point where it will be up to what the state of Florida says we can do. We’re going to follow all CDC and health guidelines, but at the end of the day, we don’t want to be the guys that do something that jeopardizes anyone’s health. We’ll take everything into consideration and make an executive decision about a month out.”

Produced for INSP by Glassman Media, Season 7 of The Cowboy Way features 12 episodes. In the end, plans for a Season 8 will depend largely on the fans, Harris said.

“Generally, they base that decision on the ratings. So far, our ratings have been good, but we’ll just have to wait and see how this season goes,” he said. “As far as I’m concerned, if people keep watching, I want to keep doing it.”
