International singer will light up Fairhope meeting

After Don and Diane Salls moved to Fairhope last year they were touched by the warm reception they received and the dear friends they quickly made in the small town.

Now, Dr. Don Salls, former University of Alabama fullback and coach at Jacksonville State University where he racked up the most wins in the school’s history, want to thank the town of Fairhope. Next week, they will present internationally celebrated singer Ora Reed in concert at the monthly Eastern Shore Federated Women’s Club meeting.

“The people of Fairhope have been so gracious to us we want to repay them for their kindness,” Diane Salls said.

Diane Salls said she hails from a musical family that began taking the stage when they were young as part of the choir at the First Baptist Church in Jackson, MS.

She was introduced to Ora Reed, who belongs to and sings in the same church choir, when her sister saw her perform.

“She was so excited. She called me and said I heard this lady she was phenomenal, majestic, stately,” Diane Salls said.

Reed will perform at the Eastern Shore Federated Women’s Club, a group dedicated to improving the community through volunteer service in art, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public issues. The organization’s current president is Susan Hebert.

Diane Salls said she is excited to bring not only an elegant singer to Fairhope but also bring joy to the community she has come to love.

“It is important to me to do this. We have so much sadness in our world,” she said. “I was hoping I could put joy in people’s lives for a few minutes. I know she can do it. She’s very inspiring.”
