It is Mullet Tossing season

Posted

Mullet tossing season is back after COVID-19 delayed last year’s event until October. The Interstate Mullet Toss and Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party fun starts Friday, April 23 and runs through Sunday.

What started as just a reason to party has become one of the biggest beach events on the coast. Those who participate in the Mullet Toss will throw a dead mullet over the state line of Florida and Alabama. The farthest throw wins. Each year the event raises over $40,000 for local charities.

The Flora-Bama and the Phoenix X Condominiums have worked together to improve this year’s event. Chairs around the Mullet Toss will be free and there will be areas blocked off for standing room. As usual, personal beach chairs are allowed on the Flora-Bama properties, free of charge. Space is limited and first come, first served so arrive early. No outside coolers or alcohol can be brought onto Flora-Bama’s licensed property, but bars will be available on the beach. Flora-Bama will be providing music so leave your speakers at home.

Tossing of the mullet runs from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. with the children toss at 10 a.m. and adults beginning at noon. Owners and celebrities will toss at 4 p.m. each day. It is $15 to toss a mullet and all tossers receive a T-shirt.

Cover charge to the Flora-Bama begins at 9 a.m. Friday through Sunday and is $10/day for 21 years and up, $15 for 16–20-year-olds and free for 15 and under.
