January Island Spirit Posthumously Awarded to Amanda LaBrecque

The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber and Beachball Properties have posthumously presented the January Island Spirit Award to Amanda LaBrecque, who tragically died last year.

A crowd gathered at The Flying Harpoon 2 in Orange Beach to honor LaBrecque's life as the award was presented to her mother Tammy Noud. The $100 prize money typically gifted to the Island Spirit Award winner was donated in LaBrecque’s name to the Alabama Coastal Foundation, represented at the event by Executive Director Mark Berte.

The nomination had this to say about LaBrecque, "I didn't know her well, but Amanda always left a great impression on me when I frequented her places of employment. She always greeted me with a hug and kept everyone entertained with her stories and one-liners. I have Parkinson’s and sometimes would order takeout. Amanda would recognize when I was having a bad day and would help me to the car with my food. Through her family and friends, I have learned she was even more amazing than I knew, a lover of the surrounding beaches and sea turtles. If there were ever a worthy recipient for the Island Spirit Award, I think Amanda is it."

The Island Spirit Award is presented monthly by the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber and Beachball Properties. It has been a tradition since the mid1980's. The award was designed to give recognition to individuals who make special contributions to the quality of life we enjoy in the Coastal Alabama region. Leslie Haley chairs the Island Spirit

Committee. Anyone can nominate a person they feel provides excellent customer service to our residents and visitors alike.
