Joan Altmyer Burris

Joan Altmyer Burris, age 88, wife of the late Lloyd Edward Burris, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020. She was born in Daphne, Alabama, in 1931, and graduated from Fairhope High School in 1949. In 1951, she was married at the Daphne United Methodist Church to Lloyd E. Burris, who was in the United States Navy. They celebrated 57 years of marriage, which included numerous moves across the US and Europe. After Lloyd’s retirement, she was so happy that she was able to return home to Daphne. After moving home, she taught for many years at and retired from Bayside Academy. Most of all, she was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to all.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Greg Burris (Kay) of Daphne, Paige Chappelle of Foley, and Andy Burris (Tricia) of Birmingham; grandchildren, Jessica Sanders (Ken), Karl Brantley (Neely), Hope Chappelle (Evan), Drew Burris, Andrea Burris, Manon Burris, and David Burris; great grandchildren, Catie Sanders, Kenny Sanders, Tripp Brantley, and Jackson Brantley; brother, Garrett Altmyer; nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at Daphne United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 5:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Daphne United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank Diversicare of Foley for providing her with loving care for the last 4 1/2 years of her life.
