John Alexander McRae

Feb. 2, 1926-Jan. 28, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather and with great joy that we celebrate his life.

John was a member of the Greatest Generation, serving in WWII in the army. After the war, he embarked on a 40-year career with the R.T. French Co. and continued working in sales, and managing his own landscape business for many years.

He was a longtime active parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne where he was an usher. He had a zest for life and a great sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Bertie Jordan McRae; sister, Lucille M. Huggins; wife, Martha Nichols; and son, John A. McRae Jr.

He is survived by his children, Catherine Anne Beck (William), Rose Denise McRae, Lavelle M. Copper and Keith B. McRae (Michele). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brittany D. Jones, Dennis G. Jones, W. Connor Beck, Chandler L. Beck, Megan A. McRae and Mason J. McRae. He also had many special friends, including Pandora Heathcoe, Walter F. Moore and his Chick-Fil-A veteran buddies, to which his family are forever grateful for all of your kindness over the years.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held in honor of our father on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at 11 a.m.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. in the church.

Inurnment will follow at Jubilee Memorial Gardens in Daphne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, 711 College Ave., Daphne, AL 36526.
