Josh (#JoshStrong) Gurvitz fundraiser planned

• GoFundMe and Regions Bank accounts accepting donations for upcoming expenses

DAPHNE, Ala. — University of West Alabama soccer player and former Daphne futbol star Josh Gurvitz was seriously injured in a Tuscaloosa accident Nov. 5. The crash following the UWA Tigers’ 2016 Gulf South Conference Tournament win, resulted in a high–cervical break and paralysis for the UWA junior who remains in intensive care at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Amy Windley has set up a GoFundMe account to help with the upcoming expenses facing Josh’s dad Phil and their family who still live in Daphne.

“Josh is facing a big enough battle himself," she said. "But once he is able to move to a rehab facility, Phil and the rest will be dealing with a lot of additional expenses.”

Windley said a similar account has been set up in London, England where Josh and his older siblings, Adam and Rianna were before moving to Daphne with their dad who works in Mobile. All three played soccer at Daphne High and club soccer with Windley on the Eastern Shore.

“Joshy is loved by so many people all over this country and in England,” she said. “We are raising money to help with all of the expense he and his family will incur during the healing and recovery process. Any donation is so appreciated.”

Regions Bank is also participating. Anyone can go into any REGIONS location and ask about FBO (For Benefit Of) account for Josh Gurvitz.

“Josh is getting the best possible care here at UAB,” Phil Gurvitz said, “And we are so very grateful to all the staff as well as the surgeons and nurses who are looking after us so well. His teammates dedicated the final and the championship to Josh. Coach (Matthew) Thorne and so many others have reached out to us. Josh has a long way to go still, but he is strong and we will all get through this together.”

He said he was also appreciative of the concerns from friends along the Gulf Coast as well as England, many of whom have also donated to the #JoshStrong GoFundMe.com account already.

Phil can be reached directly at 251-767-3851 for more information.
