TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Peyton Grantham had a bang of a season opener for the University of Alabama softball team. Batting third in the order, the Daphne High School graduate drove in six runs during a 17-0 rout of Towson. The junior first baseman hit a three-run home run and a three-run double.

Grantham started the first five games and batted .500, which tied her for 11th in the Southeastern Conference through the opening week of play. She ranked second in the conference with a team-high 10 runs batted in.

MORE SOFTBALL

Another alumna from the Daphne High fastpitch Trojans, Kaitlyn Blubaugh, hit .286 with one RBI in starting the first three games for Belhaven University.

WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS

Freshman Sophia Hyderally has been competing in multiple events for University of Alaska Anchorage. The Bayside Academy graduate earned a 9.675 in her debut on the beam during a win over University of Wisconsin-Stout. She scored a 9.450 on the uneven bars against Sacramento State.

BASEBALL

Bayside graduate Spencer Rosenbohm started six of the first eight games for Loyola University New Orleans. He hit .333 with six RBIs.

• Lurleen B. Wallace Community College pitcher Tony Kucera had one save in two appearances. The sophomore out of Robertsdale High had a 3.86 earned run average.

• Senior Easton Fuller earned the save in his first appearance for Birmingham-Southern College this spring. The former Fairhope High Pirate allowed four hits and one earned run in three innings. He struck out six.

• University of Mobile senior outfielder J.T. Peddrick batted .391 with three RBIs in seven starts. The Foley High alumnus led the team with seven stolen bases in eight attempts.

• Mobile pitcher Kyle Buck was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in one appearance. The junior right-hander competed for Baldwin County High’s Tigers.

• Spanish Fort High product Brian Lane hit .250 through six games for Delta State University. The junior designated hitter had four RBIs.
