JT Salter has had an impressive season for the University of West Alabama baseball team. The junior recently was named the Gulf South Conference pitcher of the week. Salter, a Baldwin County High School graduate was cited for his complete-game victory against Alabama Huntsville. The right-hander allowed five hits and struck out 10.
In 13 appearances, all starts, Salter was 7-3 with a 2.62 earned run average. He led the team in wins, complete games and strikeouts. He struck out at least 10 in seven games. Salter began the week second in the conference in strikeouts and third in ERA and opposing batting average.

More baseball
Pitcher Tony Kucera, who competed for Robertsdale High, was 6-3 with a 3.13 ERA in 14 appearances for University of West Florida.

Freshman pitcher Thomas Boothe had a 2-1 record and 6.04 ERA in nine outings for East Central Community College. He is from Bayside Academy.

Softball
Belhaven University senior Kaitlyn Blubaugh started all 33 of the games she played and batted .348. The Daphne High graduate and former Faulkner State (Coastal South) Sun Chief had 11 runs batted in and five stolen bases in five attempts.
Blubaugh and seven other seniors, including two former Sun Chief teammates Makayla Reed and Cassidy Comstock closed out their careers with a 6-1 home-field
victory over Sul Ross State on Senior Day. With the victory, Belhaven registered its 20th win of the year.
The other Blazers seniors recognized were Toni Wilson, Lauren Feagin, Jordan Herring, Meg Garton, and Kayley-Morganne Shields.

Freshman catcher Emily Sinclair batted .310 in 54 games for Northwest Florida State College. The Robertsdale graduate had six home runs and 42 RBIs.
Previously at Daphne, freshman infielder Lauren Ledbetter had three hits in five at-bats for William Carey University. She played in six games.
Huntingdon College freshman Claire Tomberlin hit .143 in 23 games. She competed for Spanish Fort High.

Women's outdoor track and field
University of Mobile freshman Madelyn Wells finished second in the 800-meter run at the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship. Formerly at Robertsdale, she was named to the all-conference second team in the event. Third in the 3,000 steeplechase, she was named to the all-conference third team. Wells also was on the all-conference second team for her part in the 4-by-800 relay, which placed second in a school record.
Freshman Sydney Coleman of Berea College placed sixth in the 400 run at the Hanover Invitational. The Fairhope High alumna was a part of the 4-by-400 relay that finished second.
