Thomas Boothe has been recognized for his baseball performance. The Bayside Academy graduate was named the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II national pitcher of the week for games April 1-7.

The East Central Community College right-hander was cited for pitching a no-hitter in a win over Northeast Mississippi. The sophomore struck out 14 in nine innings of the 4-0 victory.

For his effort, Boothe also was recognized as the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges pitcher of the week. In eight appearances, he had a 4-2 record and 1.86 earned run average.

MORE BASEBALL

Point University senior Dayton Cook hit .365 in starting the first 40 games. Previously at Spanish Fort High, he had two home runs and 21 runs batted in. The first baseman had a .994 fielding percentage in a team-high 345 chances.

University of West Florida senior Mike Farnell batted .323 in 36 games, including 30 starts. The past Toro drove in 14 runs.

Former Toro Jaxen Forrester had a 2-1 record and 2.93 ERA in nine outings for East Mississippi Community College.

Out of Robertsdale High, junior Brandon Broussard hit .324 in 32 starts for Mississippi College. He had 12 RBIs and a perfect fielding percentage in 231 chances, second most on the squad.

SOFTBALL

Auburn University freshman Aspyn Godwin batted .333 in 24 games, including seven starts. The Daphne High graduate who was a three-time Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State catcher in 2016 and the Class 6A ASWA Hitter of the Year recently had one home run and 10 RBIs for the Tigers.

Sophomore Emily Sinclair hit .386 in 38 games for Northwest Florida State College. The Robertsdale product had 26 RBIs, second on the team, and four home runs.

WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

Kaitlyn Ebert of Eastern Illinois University placed second in the javelin throw at the Big Blue Classic April 13 with a throw of 108 feet, seven inches. The senior out of Foley High finished 13th in the shot put and 14th in the discus.

Samford University freshman Carolina Huff placed third in the heptathlon at the Samford Alabama Track Challenge. The McGill-Toolen Catholic alumna set a personal best of 4,157 points.

U.S. Coast Guard Academy sophomore Emma Simms set a personal best in the 5,000-meter run at the Coast Guard Spring Invite. The Fairhope resident finished in 18 minutes, 57.81 seconds to place fourth.

MEN’S GOLF

University of Alabama senior Alex Green shot a 233 (75-82-76) at the Puerto Rico Classic. The past Fairhope High Pirate was fifth among the Crimson Tide's golfers.

Freshman Padraic Sim shot 218 (74-71-73) for University of Washington at the Arizona Intercollegiate. He competed for the Spanish Fort High Toros. he rolled in two birdies in his first round of the Aggies Invitational Classic in Bryan,Texas as the Huskies travelled to Texas A&M. The tournament was cut short due to inclement weather.
