LaVon Weekley Baskin 94 of Perdido Beach, Alabama passed away peacefully Friday July 17, 2020 in a local long term healthcare facility. LaVon was born on February 8, 1926 in Lake Wales, Florida to Verlyn and Lelia Mae Havard Weekley of Perdido, Al. She was a life long resident of Baldwin County Alabama and a graduate of Murphy High School in Mobile where she met her future husband Herbert ( Herb/Butch) Baskin. They married on February 10, 1946 upon his return from WWII and were married for 74 and 1/2 years. LaVon had a distinguished career in banking as Vice President and Branch Manager at her retirement. She was a member of the Eastern Star Ella D Chambers Chapter of Bay Minette Al for more than 60 years, a past President of the Bay Minette Pilots Club, member of the Daughters of the Nile ABBA Shriners of Mobile, Al, American Bankers Association, and many other civic and social organizations. LaVon’s love of travel took her through every state including Alaska and Hawaii, every state in Mexico and every Canadian Provence. She traveled all through the UK, France, Spain Portugal, Italy, Morocco, Algeria, and Monaco. She was preceded by her parents, daughter Susan K Baskin, and brother Forrest Weekley. She is survived by her husband Herbert Baskin, brother Rev George C Weekley (Ellen) of Cullowhee, NC, son Herbert Baskin Jr of Perdido Beach, Al, daughter Martha B Thompson of Houston, Texas, Grandchildren Linda Myrick, Greg Goodwin, Robby Walker, Chase Walker Sarah Smith, and Amelia Baskin . 6 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the following care team: Tommy Herndon, Grace Washington. Cynthia Jordon, and Karla Sledge for their extraordinary efforts to make LaVon as comfortable as possible. You have offered LaVon and her family friendship and genuine love. We have become family and friends.
