Sadly, our beloved Dad, aka "Grandpa," Leon Jett Hastings, born Aug. 19, 1939, passed away in Fairhope, Alabama on Jan. 4, 2018.

Born in Paducah, Kentucky, he lived most of his life in Huntsville and worked for NASA in Huntsville over a span of 40 years. He retired with the NASA Exceptional Service Award in 2001.

He recently grew an affection for Baldwin County after he retired and moved to Gulf Shores, Alabama. He loved the outdoors and rode his bike daily. He also wrote a book, "Trixie the Cow."

He formed many close relationships with neighbors and local businesses such as GooRoo's Grill and later Duck's Diner. He most recently moved to Fairhope and continued to meet new people and friends. He never met a stranger.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his daughter, Julie Hastings Pair; son, Bryan and daughter-in-law, Tonya Hastings; grandchildren, Peyton, Sanders, Emma Margaret and Olivia Pair, Emilee and Ethan Hastings; and his loyal friend, Sampson, his dog.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, our mother, Patricia Peyton Hastings in 1987.

He left a great legacy and will be truly missed.

A memorial service will be held in Huntsville, Alabama.
