The Magnolia Springs Volunteer Fire Department was approached during early Summer with a proposed Eagle Scout project for Life Scout Edler from Troop 97 in Magnolia Springs. Edler’s project idea was to create a flag drop off box, retirement fire pit and a disposal box for retired American flags. The idea came to him while participating in a recent flag retirement ceremony. He noticed that following the ceremony there was nowhere to dispose of the ashes. Since there weren’t many places to drop off and dispose of flags, he began the process of creating his project, which includes a free-standing flag drop off box that has been placed by the front doors of the Magnolia Springs VFD Station #1 on Gates Avenue. The flag retirement fire pit and disposal box for flags’ ashes are located on the old school property in front of the fire station.
