Martha C. Bigby, 82, of Fairhope, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019 at Covenant Hospice.
She was born Oct. 10, 1936 in Frisco City, Alabama to Randolph and Velma Vickery.
Martha married her husband, Felix D. Bigby Jr., in 1958 and moved to Fairhope, where she was a teacher and then the principal at Fairhope Elementary School for over 30 years. She retired in 1995, but continued to support education, by becoming a lifetime member of the Baldwin County chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Martha moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida in 2010 to be closer to her family.
Ms. Bigby was preceded in death by her parents, Randolph and Velma Vickery; and her husband, Felix D. Bigby Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Mark) Haselhorst of Gulf Breeze, Florida; and her son, Drew Bigby, Naval Base at Yokosuka, Japan; her brother, Jim and his wife Marti; grandchildren, Ansley (Tony) Silva and Jacob and Ryan Bigby.
The family would like to thank Gulf Breeze Hospital and Covenant Hospice for their loving care of their mother and grandmother in her final days.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8, from 5-7 p.m., with a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9.
