Martha Jean Northcutt was born in Haleyville, Alabama to Elsie and Herman Martin on Jan. 25, 1943. She passed suddenly of a heart attack on June 11, 2017 at the age of 74.

She was a very beautiful person, both inside and out, who was blessed in so many ways. Martha in turn blessed so many around her with her insight, drive and compassion.

The love of her life was her husband, Johnny. They had a very special relationship. They raised two sons, David and Jason, in Haleyville, Alabama. Martha was a caring mother and homemaker. She believed in hard work for her family and always led by example.

Haleyville High School is where Martha taught English, typing and computer keyboarding for 27 years. She poured into the lives of countless students, both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities.

Fairhope First Methodist is where Martha worshiped and served with her husband since moving to Fairhope 17 years ago. She sang soprano in the choir where her beautiful voice will be missed.

It is rare in life to meet someone as gifted as Martha. She was so elegant, confident, caring and compassionate. Her passing creates a void for her family and friends that only God can fill.

Martha is survived by her husband, John David Northcutt Jr.; her son, Dr. John David Northcutt III (wife Tracy) and their children Ellie, John, Ben and Anna; and her son, Dr. William Jason Northcutt (wife Terri) and their children, Will and Mary Katherine; her sister, Dean Jones; and multiple nieces and nephews.
