Mediacom Communications to Extend Broadband & Video Services to Two Underserved Subdivisions of Foley

Network expansion part of Company’s 3-Year, $1 Billion Capital Investment Plan

FOLEY – Mediacom Communications announced this week that new network construction will soon be underway to bring high-speed broadband and digital video services to residents in Foley’s Iberville Square and Parish Lakes subdivisions.

Action approved last week by the Foley City Council allows Mediacom to extend its fiber-based communications network into the two fast-growing residential neighborhoods.

Mediacom will offer residents a range of internet speeds, starting with download speeds of up to 60 Mbps, and including the latest “Gigasphere” broadband technology that delivers residential speeds of up to 1-Gigabit-per-second (1-Gig). Mediacom’s in-home Wi-Fi service, known as Xtream, downloads video and data at speeds reaching 200 Mbps.

Construction to extend services to the two subdivisions involves adding more than 10 miles of new fiber optic and coaxial cable to Mediacom’s advanced digital network. Construction will begin in July, with plans to make services available to individual homes by late-fall. The fiber build-out is part of a larger, $1 billion capital investment plan the company announced last year. A central element of the plan is the extension of Mediacom’s deep-fiber residential network to reach an additional 50,000 homes.

“Mediacom’s guiding principle is to offer smaller communities access to communications services on par with, or better than, the services available in America’s largest cities,” said Jason Clabo, Area Operations Director for Mediacom’s Alabama systems. “As a result of our investments in network expansion, we can bring our services to growing areas like Iberville Square and Parish Lakes.”

Northern Alabama residents in Madison and Limestone Counties currently have access to Mediacom’s 1-Gig broadband speeds, and by early fall 2017, the “Gigasphere” platform will be available in all Alabama areas along Mediacom’s network. The company’s service area reaches homes and businesses in more than 60 Alabama communities located in 18 counties.
