It was art imitating life when snow fell last week as David Colvin set up his snow covered, miniature Christmas village.

The snow outside quickly melted away, but inside Colvin’s shop, Fairhope Furniture Consignment, the idyllic, picture postcard scene remains and delights passersby.

“This village represents every piece of Fairhope. It’s what I feel Fairhope is,” Colvin said. “We’re such a good community.”

The set stretches across at least 18 feet of table space and originally belonged to Colvin’s mother. He has tweaked the signs on the buildings to reflect iconic and well-known places in Fairhope such as Greer’s, Red and White and Gambino’s. Even the tiny street signs have been changed to the names of the streets in the downtown area.

Visitors can check out the village every day through the store’s giant picture windows. Fairhope Furniture Consignment is located at 458A North Section St. in Fairhope. The village is lit each evening until 8 p.m.
