Mrs. Mavis Earlene Barnes, age 94, of Gulf Shores, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019.

She was a former resident of Frisco City. Mrs. Barnes owned and operated Barnes Grocery Market before retiring.

She was a member of Gulf Shores First Baptist Church and former member of Frisco City First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her parents, James Lumon Dyess and Mattie Lee McInnis Dyess; and brother-in-law, Blanch Brantley.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Clayton Barnes of Gulf Shores, Alabama. They were married on June 16, 1946 and had nearly 73 years of a loving marriage; her daughter, Madalyn Barnes (Morgan) Kitchens of Orange Beach, Alabama; one sister, Frances Denise Brantley of Selma, Alabama; nephew, James William (Lynette) Brantley; niece, Madalyn Denise (Ken) Howorth; great-nephew, Heath Brantley; and great-niece, Hillary (Aaron) Strassner.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2019 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Rick Long officiating.

Interment will be at Union Cemetery, with Johnson Funeral Home directing.
