New rules for Spanish Fort Recycling Center

Last week, a new rules sign was erected at the Spanish Fort Recycling Center on Ember Lane and city officials said they would be monitoring the area closely to make sure those rules were followed.

“We’ve had some issues over the last few months with some residents dumping items on the ground when the bins were full or bringing in trash that isn’t actually recyclable,” Mayor Mike McMillan said. “By posting these new rules, we’re telling people exactly what we expect from those who use the recycling center.”

McMillan said city staff and the Spanish Fort Police Department will be physically monitoring the area and using surveillance cameras to identify rule violators, with notification and enforcement measures that could follow any violations.

“We want to encourage people to use the recycling center, but there are rules and regulations that need to be followed,” McMillan said.

If the bins at the Spanish Fort Recycling Center are full, city staff encouraged finding other recycling centers in the area by visiting the Baldwin County Solid Waste department website.
