ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Life is a lot different for Cody Harris these days.

The Robertsdale native is settling down into life on a small farm near where he grew up.

“I get up early every morning, work all day, then go home at night,” he said, a far cry from practically growing up on the rodeo circuit, traveling the country competing in calf roping events.

“I’ve won my share of golden buckels.”

He’s also settling down into married life with relatively new bride Misty. Just a few years ago, Harris went looking for love on the reality dating show “Sweet Home Alabama,” filmed largely in Baldwin County. He followed up with the show “Southern Nights,” which featured Harris and fellow SHA alumni partying in Georgia.

But ultimately he would find love while competing again on the rodeo circuit. Misty, a Mississippi native, is herself a champion barrel racer.

“I always said when I found my best friend, I would marry her,” Harris said, “now I wake up every day next to my best friend. It just doesn’t get any better than that.”

But Harris has not left reality television, or rather reality television has not yet left him.

In 2013, Harris, along with fellow SHA alum Bubba Thompson and fellow rancher Booger Brown, formed the Faith Cattle Company. A reality show, “Dukes of Cattle” formed from that venture and now a new show, “The Cowboy Way: Alabama” continues to follow the trio, all produced by the same company that produced Sweet Home and Southern Nights.

“They’re just fascinated by our way of life,” Harris said of the show’s producers. “They really believe in what we do and promoting good, hard-working Christian values, not like some of the other crap that’s out there.”

Like “Dukes” the show was filmed largely in the Dothan area, with many scenes on the Harris’ small farm in rural Robertsdale.

“It’s about as real as reality television gets,” Harris said. “There’s also plenty of drama.”

Episode 1, which aired July 16 on The Inspirational Channel (Insp), focused largely on Thompson preparing a home for his future bride and Brown’s decision to stay or accept a job offer in another state.

As for Harris, much of the show focuses on his decision to sell his prized horse used for competition and put the money toward building a home with wife Misty. In the end, Harris’ two buddies present him with a surprise.

“I wouldn’t trade this life for anything,” Harris said.

Future episodes of The Cowboy Way: Alabama will be announced by the network and online at insp.com.

“I just want to urge everyone to watch it and, if you like it, let the network know,” Harris said. “It’s not about me. We need more shows like this. It’s something I really believe in and it’s something I want to continue doing.”
