After multiple votes, the Baldwin County Board of Education selected veteran educator and Orange Beach resident Norma Lynch to fill the remainder of Angie Swiger’s term on the board.
Lynch has been teacher, community schools coordinator, assistant principal, principal and a real estate agent.
The board interviewed Lynch and two other candidates, Elberta resident Charity Hudson and Fort Morgan resident Steve Martin, during a special called meeting in Loxley on Jan. 4.
When it came time for the board to vote, Daphne board member David Tarwater motioned for Lynch, who first received three votes. Board vice president Shannon Cauley then motioned for Hudson, who also received three votes. Foley board member JaNay Dawson then motioned for Martin, who received two votes.
Cauley again motioned for Hudson, who then received two votes.
Tarwater then motioned again for Lynch, who received the necessary four votes to attain a majority: Tarwater, board members Tony Myrick and David Cox and board president Cecil Christenberry.
Christenberry said he was pleased with the results of the vote.
"We very much welcome Mrs. Lynch and look forward to the outstanding leadership qualities and wealth of expertise that she brings to the table," Christenberry said. "We had three highly qualified individuals to interview, which speaks very highly to the county in which we live.”
