Orange Beach Police apprehend burglary suspect

Orange Beach Police officers responded to a report of a possible burglary in the Terry Cove Subdivision March 29, around 5 a.m.

The nanny at the residence was awakened by the family dog barking at the homeowners closed bedroom door. The drawers and cabinets were open and had been gone through.

While on the scene, officers received a tip that a male dressed in black and driving a golf cart has been seen checking out houses. Officers found the golf cart and suspect who was identified as Tanner Childress, age 19 of Gulf Shores. Childress was armed with a handgun when officers apprehended him as well as a backpack full of property and guns in the golf cart which was stolen.

Besides the house that was burglarized, 31 cars were broken into.

Childress was arrested and will be charged with 47 criminal charges. The charges range from Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling to Theft of Property Third Degree. Childress was transported to the Baldwin County Corrections Center.
