Peggie Yvonne Perkins Prish

Posted

Our Lord decided that Peggie Yvonne Perkins Prish's 83 years on earth was enough for us to know, enjoy and love her, and called her home. She is not gone; she's just not here anymore.

Peggie was born in Helena, Alabama, the youngest of six children of James Volley and Genia Rebecca Perkins.

She leaves behind her husband, William; brother, James "Buddy" Perkins (Verna); daughter, Valerie Owen; son, F. Brad Owen (Lynn); William's children, Jonathan, Jennifer Arnold (Steve) and Jeffrey (Sherane); grandchildren, Brandon Smith (Emily), Jessica Bull (Chad) and Joshua Owen (Victoria), Jonathan, Luke, Benjamin and Haley; numerous great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and dear friends.

Peggie had maintained lasting friendships with her Vigor High School classmates even after spending her senior year at Hueytown HS.

Peggie retired from International Paper Company in Mobile in 1993 after 24 years of devoted service as executive secretary.

She was known for her passion for life, all holidays and special occasions. She loved peanut butter, sports (especially Alabama football), history, travel, dining out, beautiful yards (which she was more than willing to help create), sitting on the back porch, margaritas, vodka tonics and pinot grigio (but not necessarily in any particular order).

Peg was the ultimate provider of family spirit. She was extremely patriotic and hurt each time our country was hurt. Peggie never passed up an opportunity to speak to a stranger or hug a child.

She finally found a church she loved in St. Andrew by the Sea.

Thanks go out to family and friends who reached out to her during her prolonged struggles after her stroke and, to the employees of Ascera Care. Our family owes special thanks and gratitude to her private caregivers, Dori, Kenya, Teresa and most especially to Mitzi Delaune who was with us for over 2½ years and became part of our family.

Viewing for family and close friends was on Dec. 27, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley, Alabama followed by a gravesite burial.

Following at 2:30 p.m., for all that wanted to pay their respects and join family and friends, there was an informal celebration of life at St. Andrew by the Sea in Gulf Shores.

Although Peggie loved flowers, in lieu of flowers a donation to St. Jude's or Alzheimer's Association or your favorite charity in her name would be most appreciated.

Arrangements by Pine Rest Funeral Home, Foley.
