Pirates win Eastern Shore Championship

DAPHNE, Ala. — The Pirates rolled to the 2017 Eastern Shore Junior Varsity tournament title with a 12-2 championship-final win over host Daphne April 8 at Al Trione Park.

Fairhope opened pool play with wins over Daphne, Faith and Theodore. After an initial loss to Fairhope, the DHS Trojans battled their way back into the title match-up series but fell short of forcing a second final with the undefeated Pirates. DHS’ only losses were to Fairhope in the two-day double-elimination tournament.

In bracket play the Pirates outscored opponents 32-3 defeated Faith 9-1 and Theodore 11-0 before meeting Daphne in the championship.

Bella Wiggins pitched 13 innings in bracket play winning three while allowing just two earned runs. She also hit .454 average scoring five runs. Lorna Agren batted.420 scoring six runs. Claire Wagner hit .600 scoring six times and Hailey Minchew batted .700 with five runs scored.

Fairhope, coached by Dustin Wagner and Tray Collins improved to 36-3-1 with their fourth first-place tournament win of the year.
