ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — A popular Robertsdale eatery remains closed after a vehicle traveling southbound on Alabama 59 rammed into the side of the building.

According to an accident report filed with the Robertsdale Police Department, Mac and Jerry’s Diner, located on the corner of Alabama 59 Southbound and Pennsylvania Street, was damaged when a 2004 Chevrolet Classic 4-door sedan slammed into the side of the building at approximately 5:20 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21.

According to the report, the driver of the vehicle, identified as 29-year-old Corey Perez Green of Gadsden, walked away and left the scene of the accident on foot, while the vehicle’s passenger, identified as Larry Wayne Ferrell, remained with the vehicle.

Green was found walking down the side of the highway and brought back to the scene, according to the report. Ferrell told officers that Green fell asleep at the wheel and he was attempting to wake him up when the vehicle left the roadway and struck the building. Green denies having fallen asleep, telling officers that he lost control of the vehicle.

According to the report, the owner of the vehicle, identified as Bobby Secrest of Florence, was notified of the accident and that the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

The owner of the restaurant, Jerry Dugger, was reportedly on scene when the accident report was filed. The restaurant was apparently closed at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported. No charges have been reported and RPD Chief Investigator Rex Bishop said an investigation is ongoing.
