BAY MINETTE, Alabama — The Rabun Volunteer Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own following a crash north of Bay Minette Friday afternoon.

According to a release issued by the Alabama Law Enforcement agency Christopher Adam Black, 44, was killed when the 2002 Ford Focus he was driving collided with a 2006 Honda Ridgeline. The wreck occurred at 1:40 p.m. Friday at the 5.50 mile marker of Alabama 298, four miles north of Bay Minette.

In a statement issued Saturday morning on the Rabun Fire Department’s Facebook page, the department offered its thoughts and prayers to Black’s family.

“He was willing to serve the Rabun community and volunteer no matter the situation,” according to the statement. “Our Fire Department will not be the same with him. He will always be remembered, never forgotten.”

Black was a native and lifelong resident of Rabun. He was a member of the Rabun Volunteer Fire Department and the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church of God.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church of God. Burial will follow at the Paul Cemetery.

According to a release issued Friday by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Black was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda was transported to North Baldwin Infirmary for treatment of his injuries.

Alabama State Troops are conducting an investigation in the crash.
