Rev. Floyd Carson Enfinger

Posted

Rev. Floyd Carson Enfinger was born Nov. 1, 1927 in Dale County, Alabama. He died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017. He was a resident of Fairhope.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, June McArthur Enfinger; three children, Floyd Enfinger Jr., Lee Cleveland and Robin King; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He served Jesus Christ through the United Methodist Church for his entire adult life. He was a powerful preacher, wise counselor and a loving minister at the United Methodist Churches of the Slocomb, Alabama circuit; Eufaula (Washington Street); Montgomery (Chisholm); Shalimar, Florida; Mobile (Government Street); Pensacola (St. Mark); Opelika (First); and Prattville (First).

He also served as superintendent of the Dothan District of the United Methodist Church. He was called out of retirement in Fairhope to serve Morgan's Chapel United Methodist Church in Bon Secour when it re-opened its doors in the new millennium.

He is remembered for his contagious spirit for what is right. When others were silent, he spoke for justice and righteousness for all God's children. When he was confronted by those who disagreed with him, he had the strength of character and love to calm the choppy waters of hostility.

Floyd enjoyed storytelling, watching Alabama football, hunting, reading about Alabama football, fishing, talking about Alabama football, tending a big vegetable garden, and listening to Alabama football.

He liked seeing his children occasionally, visiting with his grandchildren often and spending time with his great-grandchildren all the time.

Services are scheduled for Morgan's Chapel United Methodist Church (Bon Secour) Friday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m., with a reception following in the church's Enfinger Center.

Burial will be Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. in the Slocomb, Alabama cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Morgan's Chapel United Methodist Church, 6315 Bon Secour Hwy., Bon Secour AL 36511, or any church he served.

Special thanks are given to Dr. Brooke Herron and Kim Nolte and their staff, Dr. Reeves Dill, Ms. Tara Welch and the entire staff of Providence Covenant Care Hospice.
