ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — For the fourth year in a row, the Robertsdale High School Junior ROTC program finished in the top 10 among Area 8 programs, cracking the top 5 with a fifth-place finish, said RHS NJROTC Commander Frank Starr.

“We will continue to work hard to move up in the rankings,” Starr said in an emailed release on Tuesday, April 28. “We greatly appreciate the support of our program.”

After finishing with over 200 points in program history for 2018-19, with a total of 221 for an eighth place, RHS topped the mark with 230 points, along with a Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors designation once again for 2019-20, Starr said.

“We believe this to be the highest finish in unit history,” he said. Cadets will be issued the Distinguished Unit ribbon and RHS will receive an additional DU streamer for its guidon.

NJROTC Area 8 includes 48 units from Alabama (except Hazel Green High School), Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and the Florida panhandle.

Highlights for the 2019-20 school year include:

• Qualifying for the Brain Brawl National Championship.

• Having a marksman compete at the NJROTC Air Rifle National Championship,

• Establishing a CyberPatriot team that finished in the top 25 percent in the nation while achieving a Platinum rating.

• Creating and hosting the Battle at Blakeley Orienteering Meet.

• Hosting the Battle of the Gulf Air Rifle Match.

• Holding the school year’s first Area Manager’s Inspection in just the third week of school.

Pace was awarded the Outstanding Unit title and Comeaux was ranked as the Most Improved Unit in Area 8.

Robertsdale was the only Alabama school to be ranked in the top 10, with Florida schools taking the top four spots, Pace, Escambia High, Milton and Navarre. Pine Forest, Florida, finished sixth, followed by Pascagoula, Mississippi, Gautier, Mississippi, Northeast Lauderdale, Mississippi, and Comeaux, Louisiana, rounding out the top 10.
