Robertsdale Council approves rezoning request

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The Robertsdale City Council approved a rezoning request, along with other routine business at its 8 a.m. meeting Sept. 18.

The council voted unanimously with all present to rezone property on the west side of Racine Street between Pennsylvania Street and Ohio Street from R-3, multi-family residential district; to M-U, multi-use district.

The property was previously used as a church and is currently being used as a dance studio., but is surrounded by an apartment complex, said city engineer Greg Smith.

A dance studio is not allowed under the R-3 zone and the owner was sent a notice to that effect. After being made aware of this, the owner applied for the property to be rezoned M-U, multi-family zoning district, which would allow a dance studio.

The council voted unanimously by roll-call vote to suspend the rules for immediate passage then adopted Ordinance No. 005-17 unanimously by roll-call vote.

In other business, the council approved the use of Garrett Park for the Great Pumpkin Bike Ride, which will be held Oct. 22, followed by the showing of the classic, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. In the park.

The council also approved a request for a temporary ABC License for St. Patrick’s 17th Annual Harvest Festival Nov. 3 at the church on Alabama 59 North; approved minutes from the Sept. 5 meeting and paid bills in the amount of $147,456.75.
