ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Several old favorites and a few new surprises will be in store for the 18th Annual PCA Championship Rodeo, which will be held Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11 at the Baldwin County Fairgrounds arena in Robertsdale.

“We’re looking forward to another great event and we want everyone to come out and enjoy some good family entertainment,” said 2016-17 Rotary Club President Carl Davis.

This year will mark the return of the Mini Rodeo on Wednesday, March 8, which will provide a preview to the Friday and Saturday festivities. This year’s Mini Rodeo will be presented by Citizens’ Bank.

Students from local schools will be treated to a sampling of rodeo events. It will also see the return of last year’s rodeo halftime entertainment, The Rawhide-n-Dusty Show & James Boys Wild and Western Entertainment.

Mark “Rawhide” Lahmann and his wife Cindy of Sullivan, Missouri, have traveled all over the United States for more than 15 years performing at various events. They will be making a return trip to perform during halftime both nights.

Rawhide and his horse Dusty entertain the crowd with tricks such as Dusty shaking his head yes and no, bowling, lying down and raring up. After performing these tricks, Rawhide will lope the horse around the arena performing whip popping on horse-back.

Rawhide also has two trained Texas Longhorn steers known as Frank and Jessie, the outlaws from Missouri. Frank and Jessie perform on top of the trailer with Rawhide and Dusty. The show also promises to include a few new surprises. Visit rawhideanddusty.com for more information.

Rodeo organizers and this year’s Rodeo clown will also be touring schools once again on Thursday, March 9 to help promote the rodeo.

Rodeo participants will also once again get the opportunity to win a Henry Golden Boy Long Colt .45 rifle, courtesy of Campbell Hardware. Raffle tickets are being sold through Rotary Club members or during the event. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and a drawing will be held Saturday night.

Local students are also invited to participate in the annual cover art contest and coloring contest, presented this year by Bryant Bank. You can pick up an entry form at the Foley and Daphne locations of Bryant Bank, Alfa Insurance in Robertsdale or check with your local school. Entry forms are also available online at robertsdalerotary.com.

One girls’ and one boys’ bicycle, donated by Walmart, will be given away each night during the rodeo.

The event is produced by Bo Campbell Rodeo and is part of the Ram Rodeo Series. Presenting sponsor is Baldwin EMC. Other major sponsors include Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Dodge Ram and Chuck Stevens Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Bay Minette. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Robertsdale Rotary Foundation.

“With their support and your attendance, our Foundation is able to give help and support to many groups throughout Baldwin County and beyond,” Davis said. “The goal of our Rodeo is to help as many groups as possible.”

One of those groups is the William F. Green Veterans Home. Residents from the Veterans Home will be honored during halftime festivities Friday night.

Other groups benefitting from Foundation donations over the past year include Silverhill Elementary School, Elsanor Elementary School, Robertsdale High School baseball, ARC of Baldwin County, Explorers, Catholic Social Services, Women’s Care Medical and Landstuhl Fisher House, Germany.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. both nights with events beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children under 5. Friday night is Kid’s Night, sponsored by Wind Creek Hospitality, with free admission for all children under 12 when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Festivities will begin both nights with the singing of the National Anthem by Morgan Franklin, 14-year-old Foley High School student and winner of the 2016 Kids Karaoke scholarship contest. Special thanks also to the Robertsdale High School Naval Jr. ROTC for help with parking and other tasks throughout the rodeo.

Advance tickets are available at the Summerdale Western Store, Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce and at the Foley and Daphne locations of Bryant Bank.
