FOLEY - The South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce kicked off its 2018 Leadership Series on Wednesday, April 25 at the Foley Civic Center. For the presentation, Kim Horton, M.A., Human Resource Manager, LandrumHR, came as the guest speaker to kick-off the event, the first of many Leadership Series taking place throughout the year. Horton has more than 20 years of human resources experience, and a Master of Arts degree in IO Psych, or Industrial Organization Psychology. She has now been with Landrum for three years, a company represented in almost every state.
During the event, Horton presented a seminar on emotional intelligence (EQ), something that she claims is vitally important in the workforce and for those in management. Emotional intelligence is something that everyone has the ability to increase over time, through learning more about their own emotions and interactions.
“Employees don’t leave companies, they leave managers,” said Horton. “Which is why managers should really care about their EQ. Managers sometimes care more about the task that’s being done, and less about the employee, so they become task oriented and don’t engage with the person.”
Horton spoke about how to raise one’s EQ, and the importance of managers connecting with employees and maintaining a committed team.
