LOXLEY, Alabama — Space is filling up for the Town of Loxley’s 13th Summer Youth Program, which begins at the end of this month at the Loxley Civic Center and Municipal Park.

The five-week camp begins the day after Memorial Day, May 30 and features daily activities and crafts throughout the program, ending June 30.

Started in limited capacity in 2004 by then activities director Joey Knight, the camp is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 12. After drawing as many as 100 campers in its early years, the camp is now limited to 50, said Tina Harris, who came on board as activities director for the town in 2013.

“We’ve got about 25 campers signed up and I expect that we those slots will fill up quickly the closer we get to the end of the school year,” Harris said.

Registration for the camp is $150, which includes all art and craft supplies, special events, daily snacks and teachers, among other things. The camps run Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Extended care is also available at a cost of $5 per hour. Lunch is provided at a cost of $2 per meal. Breakfast is also offered at a cost of $1 per meal.

Extra charges will apply for weekly day trips, Harris said, including admission to Wales West and fees to bowl at the Gulf Bowl in Foley. Trips are also being planned to enjoy movies at a local theater.

You can download a registration form at townofloxley.com. Under “DEPARTMENTS” go to Civic Center, then click on Summer Youth in the right column.
