DOTHAN, Ala. — The Toros book-ended their 2016-17 season with wins over neighboring and league rival Daphne. The Trojans won three straight in between, but Spanish Fort capped the series with a 52-47 South Region win and punched their ticket to the 6A Final Four. It’s the first trip to the state semifinals for the SFHS basketball program.
Spanish Fort freshman Kris Draine was named MVP after leading the Toros with 15 points, Michael Meador added nine and Terrin Atkinson eight. Senior Trae Barry made two blocks and came down with seven rebounds for SFHS.
Daphne was led by Dre Graves with 14 points and Deontaye Buskey who, hampered the last four games with an ankle injury, finished with 13 points.
