SPANISH FORT – City Hall closed its doors to the public on Wednesday, March 18 following action by the City Council to slow the spread of the coronavirus in the community.

The Spanish Fort City Council voted Monday, March 16, to declare an emergency and close municipal facilities. The closings took effect after the end of the business day Tuesday.

“We felt it was a step we had to take to protect the community and our employees,” Mayor Mike McMillan said.

He said city services will continue to operate and residents can do business with Spanish Fort departments by phone, online or by mail.

Parks will also remain open, but residents are asked to maintain social distancing and practice other safety procedures to prevent the spread of COVID 19. Restrooms in the parks will be locked in an effort to slow the virus.

The Spanish Fort Senior Center is also closed to the public, including the exercise facility.

The Police Department lobby will be closed. Residents needing police assistance can call the department at 251-626-4914. Anyone needing emergency assistance should call 911.

Municipal Court scheduled for March 26 has been cancelled. Individuals and lawyers with court dates will have their hearings rescheduled and will be notified of the new dates.
