Spring Signing Day at Daphne

• Seven Trojans ink letters of intent with collegiate athletic programs

DAPHNE, Ala. — Seven Daphne High student athletes were recognized for their accomplishment of making post-secondary plans to play sports at the next level.

Surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and the Daphne High administration, the athletes signed their letters of intent on April 13 to officially accept athletic scholarships offered to them by the following colleges/universities:

Harrison Comerford (Baseball), Lawson State Community College

•(2017 STATISTICS): .408 Batting Average, 21 RBI, 10 Doubles, and threw out 33 percent of runners stealing.

•(CAREER STATISTICS): .330 Career Batting Average, 378 RBI, 21 Doubles, & threw out 36 percent of runners stealing.

•He is looking forward to making a difference at Lawson State. He is dedicated to working hard and helping the Cougars continue to remain in the top 5 of the divisional standings.

Noland McGuffy (Baseball), Central Alabama Community College

•(2017 STATISTICS): A .270 Batting Average, 11 RBI, 23.1 innings pitched, 3-2 record with two saves, 2.40 ERA, 21 K’s, and 22 BB’s.

•(CAREER STATISTICS): 105 innings pitched, 14-8 record, five saves, 3.45 ERA, 130

strikeouts, 70 walks, .310 Career Batting Average, and 15 RBI’s.

•He is excited about being a member of the Central Alabama baseball team. Coach Owen Davis says,

“The sky is the limit” for Noland at the next level.

Krysta Wright (Basketball), Coastal Alabama Community College

•(CAREER STATISTICS): 730 points, 150 assists, 171 rebounds, 11 blocks, and 142 steals.

•AWARDS - 2015-16: First Team Area 2 All-Tournament Team, First Team All-County, 2016-17: First Team Area 2 All-Tournament Team, Baldwin County Player of the Year, First Team All-County, and First Team All-Coastal.

• National Honor Society (3.79 GPA)

• St. Paul’s Thrift Store Volunteer Awardee

• “Krysta approaches academics and sports with a purpose and intent that can only result in success.” – Coach Mason Dunn.

Brandon Bowers (Football), Faulkner University

•(2016-17 STATISTICS): 34 solo tackles, 40 assisted tackles, one TFL, four pass deflections and one interception.

•AWARDS - 2016-17 All County 2nd Team - Defense

•“Brandon plain and simple is a great athlete and a great young man. I have no doubt that he will excel at Faulkner.” – Coach Kenny King.

Courtland Griffin (Football), William Penn University

•(2016-17 STATISTICS): 11 game starter on the offensive line. Paved the way 1,551 yards rushing & 3,479 total offensive yards.

•AWARDS - National Honor Society (3.8 GPA)

•He is eager to get to work and willing to play both sides of the ball again if needed at William Penn. Coach Kenny King says, “Courtland has a mind for academics and football that will serve him very well in college.”

Myles Henderson (Football), Dodge City Community College

•(2016-17 STATISTICS): 42 receptions, 832 yards, 19.8 YPG, & 16 touchdowns

•AWARDS - All County 1st Team – Offense, All State Honorable Mention

• He plans to arrive at Dodge City this summer and is committed to working hard to achieve his goal of playing at the next level. Coach Kenny King has known Myles for most of his life and stated,

“Myles has grown into an outstanding young man, team leader, and athlete. It has been an honor to know him now as a young man and I look forward to watching him grow and excel at the next level.”

Hunter Strong (Football), Mississippi College

•Served as the team long snapper for punts and extra points.

•AWARDS - 2016-17 Daphne High Male Academic Athlete of the Year, 2016-17 Daphne High Academic Football Awardee, National Honor Society (3.96 GPA)

“Hunter was an unsung part of our success this year. He is humble, smart, and respectful, all attributes that will carry him forward in his future.” – Coach Kenny King.
