Steve Mobley appointed Magnolia Springs councilman

MAGNOLIA SPRINGS – Steve Mobley was appointed as the newest Magnolia Springs council member at the town’s regular September meeting. Mobley will be taking seat 2 after former council member Donna Esslinger was recently forced to resign due to health issues.

The decision comes after much deliberation from the present council, who received letters of interest from townspeople the week prior to the meeting. In the end, the decision was unanimous. Though the council agreed that everyone who showed interest would be great candidates, there were a few instances that set Mobley apart.

“I nominate Steve because he’s been to just about every meeting we’ve had,” said council member Ben Dykema. “He’s up-to-date on everything that’s going on, he’s served on the Planning Commission since our inception, he’s served on the Public Lands Committee, he serves with the fire department. I think he’s shown he’s very dedicated to our community. Not to say any of the other candidates aren’t, I just think Steve’s been to so many of our meetings, he’s really shown an interest in the town from that perspective.”

After a quick vote, the nomination was unopposed, and Mobley was announced as the newest council member.

Even so, town members of Magnolia Springs are encouraged to continue showing their interest, as there are plenty of seats available in other committees.

“Thank you to everyone who did let us know that you were interested,” said Mayor Bob Holk. “Now we have two positions open on the Planning Commission, we have a position open on the Finance Committee, and we have a position on Public Lands, so we’ll be in touch.”

Following the regular September meeting, Mobley was sworn in to council, and will be taking seat 2 beginning with the Magnolia Springs October workshop.
