Summerdale approves bond issue for new fire station

Posted

SUMMERDALE - The Summerdale Public Building Authority and the Summerdale council both approved the bond issue of $3,135,000 for the new Summerdale Volunteer Fire Station. The station will be located at the corner of Highway 73 and Highway 32. Walcott Adams Verneuille Architects is working closely with the town and volunteer department on preliminary designs.

The town hit the market at a time with low interest rates, and locked in a rate of approximately 2.5 percent fixed for 30 years.

The new station will be considerably larger than the current location. With the department growing, the need for more room for volunteers and equipment became imperative. The new location is approximately halfway between the Baldwin Beach Express and Highway 59, two high-volume response areas for the department.
