Summerdale Public Library cancels Annual Christmas Concert

Posted

SUMMERDALE - The Summerdale Public Library has made the decision to cancel the Annual Christmas Concert due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The concert normally serves as a kickoff to the holiday season. All proceeds from the concert go to the library and go towards library repairs, new equipment and books, and programs.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, it would be difficult to fit more than 50 people into the concert location if properly keeping everyone distanced. Councilmember Norma Giles, who also serves on the Library Board, stated that thankfully the library does not currently have any ongoing projects, and they have paid for the new flooring and new entryway.

By Sept. 14, the library had received approximately $3,000 worth of donations from sponsors still wanting to give to the library. Giles said the committee normally receives around $12,000 total in sponsors, with $6,000 being spent towards the concert and $6,000 being netted from the concert.

The Library Board extended its thanks to past supporters and sponsors, and hopes to see everyone again next year. The Annual Christmas Concert is the biggest fundraiser for the Summerdale Public Library. Anyone who would like to donate to the library to support future projects and programs may do so by stopping by 202 West Broadway Street. Check the library’s website at www.summerdalelibrary.com for more details.
