ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The George P. Thames Senior Center in Robertsdale will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a Birthday Bash Tailgate Social beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the PZK Civic Center, 17933 Alabama 104, Robertsdale.

The facility, located at 22651 E. Chicago St., was opened in December of 1986 under the administration of Mayor George “Pervy” Thames and was dedicated in his honor in March of 1991, shortly before his death later that year.

“This has always been a great place to work,” said Senior Center Director Sarah Duncan. “We have such wonderful volunteers and appreciate all the support the city has given us through the years.

Sponsored by Alabama Hospice, the party will include refreshments and the Robertsdale High School band and cheerleaders will be on hand to get everyone into the tailgating spirit.

Live entertainment will be provided by the Exit 105 band and scrapbooks are being prepared featuring many of the memories through the years at the senior center.

“We want everyone who has ever been a part of the senior center and all of our new friends to stop by and join in the celebration,” Duncan said.

RSVP is requested by calling the senior center at 251-947-8973.
