Thomas Gray Prewitt, known and loved by all as “Gray,” passed away suddenly on September 25, 2020 at Thomas Hospital, in Fairhope, Alabama, surrounded by his family. Gray was the only child born to Tom and Glynn Prewitt on March 20,1945 in Selma, Alabama. He grew-up in Greenwood, Mississippi, in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, where he attended Greenwood High School. He received an undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, a source of lifelong friendships. He began his lifelong educational career within the educational environment as a Master Mathematics Instructor in the Mississippi educational system. As the educational system changed with computer technology, he returned to the University of South Alabama where he received a Masters Degree in Instructional Design. While at U.S.A., he met his wife and best friend Burton Kilgore, from Fairhope, Alabama where they eventually made their home. Gray and Burton married in their Church, Trinity Presbyterian of Fairhope, on Derby Day, 1997 and celebrated on the shore of Mobile Bay at Sunset sipping mint juleps. He then created an educational services company, Instructional Technology Services, and working with his long time friend, Stan Mayer, Gray spent the remainder of his career procuring grants to provide IT infrastructure funding for both on-site and remote learning capabilities for Mississippi, Alabama and Southern California area school systems. He was a true educational technological visionary and loved to share his gift of technology with friends and family. Gray was an avid aviation enthusiast, receiving his pilot's license in 1978, and then sharing this passion with his father-in-law Russ Kilgore, Sr., often flying together and bonding over their dreams in the sky. He was also quite jovial and sometimes a prankster with his dry wit sense of humor. His story telling would hold an audience for as long as anyone would listen. He also had passions for fishing, hunting, boating and an amateur wine vintner. Gray and Burton often enjoyed their boat on the local waters while capturing the sunset through the lens of the wine glass. He could often be described as straight out of the boondocks with a Napa Valley Pallet. Gray is survived by his wife of 23 years, Burton Kilgore Prewitt, son Scott Prewitt of Fairhope, Alabama and his wife Rosanna and their children, Kailyn, Avery, Natalia and Levi, also son Mark Prewitt of Acworth, Georgia and his wife Lindsey, and their children Grayson, Carson and Madison, along with his many lifelong friends and members of his extended family.
Visitation with the family for Thomas Gray Prewitt will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2020 beginning at 1:00 PM, with services at 2:00 PM in Trinity Presbyterian Church, 545 South Mobile Street in Fairhope, Alabama. Interment will be held following the Services in Fairhope Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Fairhope, Alabama, 36532.
