SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Baldwin County came to the Hill to play, but No. 2-ranked Spanish Fort deflected the Tigers attack with tight, unyielding defense all night. The Toros improved to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in region play. The Tigers fell to 2-2, 1-2.

Spanish Fort led 7-0 at halftime after a Logan Morgan to Holdan Wilson touchdown pass of 16-yards. It would be the only touchdown from scrimmage mustered by the Toros on offense. The Tigers stayed within striking distance until the fourth quarter.

In the second half, Matt Quinn extended the SFHS lead with field goals of 20 and 27 yards.

Also in the fourth quarter, James came up with an interception (his second of the game) and returned the pick 45 yards for the final TD. The Toros’ defense produced three turnovers en route to the shutout.

This Friday Baldwin County travels to Alma Bryant for a non-region game with the Class 7A Hurricanes. Spanish Fort has an open week before a Sept. 30 Region 1 showdown in Eight Mile with the No. 1 Class 6A Blount Leopards.

Savannah Lee was named 2016 Homecoming Queen for Spanish Fort. She is the daughter of Tyson and Kelly Lee.
